Introduction To HTML

Headings in HTML

Headings are very important in HTML documents.

HTML Headings 1to6

  • HTML headings are defined with the <h1> to <h6> tags.
  • Every tag has a closing tag. Otherwise it will not work. For example:
<h1>This is a heading</h1>
<h2>This is a heading</h2>
<h3>This is a heading</h3>

Note: Browsers automatically add an empty line before and after a heading.

Important for Headings

Headings in HTML are used to define the format and structure of your document. You can highlight the important topic and this topic will help the users to search your web pages.

H1 will be used as main heading and most important heading. H6 will be least important than others.

In most cases, it is preferable for a heading to be centered horizontally on the page.  However, since some browsers so not recognize the ALIGN parameter for headings, it is a good idea to center a heading by using <CENTER> & </CENTER> tags.

A Line in HTML

The <hr /> tag creates a horizontal line in an HTML page.

The hr element can be used to separate content:

Example

<html>
<body>
<p>This code is to define the line:</p>
<hr />
<p>This is a line </p>
<hr />
<p>This is a paragraph</p>
<hr />
<p>This is a paragraph</p>
</body>
</html>

Output:

This code is to define the line:

This is a line

This is a paragraph

This is a paragraph

Comments in HTML

Comments is a way to help yourself and the person who will use the source code of your page later. when your page is display on the browser the comments will not display on this page. we can see it only in the source code of the webpage.

To write a comment, you begin with a less than sign (<) followed directly by an exclamation point (!) and two dashes (--). After this, you type in your comments. To end the comment, you use two dashes (--) followed directly by a greater than sign (>).

Example

<html>
<body>

<!--this is a comment line and will not show in output-->
<p>This is a regular paragraph in your code </p>

</body>
</html>

Output:

This is a regular paragraph in your code
